As a licensed cosmetologist, Maya has long been drawn to the ways beauty and self-expression intersect with identity. She sees beauty not simply as aesthetics, but as a way people learn to inhabit themselves more confidently and authentically.

Maya also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Tennessee State University and a Master of Professional Studies from Lipscomb University, where she earned certifications in Coaching and Strategic Leadership.
